Griffin Peter Robert Lucas arrived Monday September 4th (Labour Day..haha) at 1:52 am. Weighing in at a respectable 7lbs 11oz, and measuring a whopping 21 3/4 inches long, with the most impressively huge pair of feet I've ever seen on a baby!
We had a fairly calm 10 hours of couch sucking at home (more commonly referred to as labour, but I spend most of it on my knees with my face buried in the couch, to try and relieve the back labour!) and then went to the hospital for 6 less calm hours of grunting and groaning. After only about 20 minutes of pushing, with barely enough time for the second midwife to arrive, Griffin emerged.
It's hard to know what to say about the whole experience - it's like nothing I could ever imagine! You can read all the books and watch all the videos in the world, but until you have the actual experience of pushing a baby out into the world, it's hard to have an idea what it's really all about. Somewhere along the way, the pain disappears, and is replaced by sheer willpower and determination to get this baby out into the world. And once he's out everything else disappears, and there is only him. It was incredible all around, and someday, when I regain feeling in my lower extremities, we just may think about doing it again. Someday. Not yet. Or any time soon!
Parenthood, on the other hand, is another new and wonderful (and sleepless) experience all in itself. It's hard to imagine that its possible to love another person THAT much. It's also hard to imagine just how precious 10 minutes of sleep can be, but 10 minutes is better than nothing, and I'll take that any day!
Generally, we are tired, but happier than we've ever been in our lives, and that makes it all worthwhile. Just like we thought it would.

Ah, never mind. If he says anything, he'll say "milk."
