It's Complicated

"The Early Years of Steve" is a story best told over a comfy chair, a roaring fire, and a bottle of wine or two. I'm going to give you the Readers Digest version of the story, for the purposes of carrying on with my point. Steve was adopted by the Mom and Dad who raised him when he was just wee. His birth parents, teenagers themselves when they had Steve, went their seperate ways before his mom even knew she was pregnant. When he was in his early twenties, he began to search for his birth parents, and found them 7 years later. Through the process of him reuniting with his birth parents, they also reunited with each other, and subsequently got married - Steve was at the wedding reception! (How cool is that!) They had both had other children in the mean time, so Steve has also had the chance to get to know some of his half siblings.

His birth parents have been happily together for the past 14ish years or so. Until Friday, when Kathy (the birth mom) passed away. She'd been suffering from MS for 13 of those 14 years. Luckily I got to meet her a few year ago when we were out west. Unfortunately, she never got to meet Griffin.

As you can imagine, the feelings that go with this for Steve are rather complex. I'm not going to speak to them here, as they're his, and not mine to speculate on. He's heading out to Calgary for the day for the funeral, and I wish we could be there with him.

We miss you babe, and we're thinking of you today (well, we think of you every day!) We'll see you in a few days!

xoxoxo

Sorry for your loss and that Griffin never got a chance to meet Cathy.
