Spring, I can taste it!

My friend Cara and I just spent a marathon afternoon wading through seed catalogues, choosing the best and the top varieties of EVERY VEGETABLE IMAGINABLE to plant in our vegetable gardens. Oh my! Our list was longer than I ever could have imagined, and included just a little bit of everything.

Last year we both got to our gardens way too late in the season - they both had to be tilled from scratch, and things like babies and toddlers and stuff got in the way, and before we knew it, it was June, and there were still no plants in the ground. But this year is going to be different. This year, we're ON TOP of things, as evidenced by our January seed ordering!

So, this year we're going whole hog right off the bat. We're going to divide and conquer, plant some things at our house, some at hers, see what grows best where, and then split the spoils. First off though, we're going to order the seeds, and get a whole whack of them in seed trays, and set them up to do their thing in Cara's south facing windows of her living room. Because if there is one thing this house is lacking, it's south facing windows. Strange, eh? Who would build a house with the majority of the windows on the north side? Not ME, that's who!

This January garden planning is kind of nice. It seems somehow appropriate, since around christmas time it felt like I had been sewing presents since July. Christmas in July, spring in January. It's ideal really, and gives me something to look forward to!

I can taste the melons, strawberries, romaine lettuce, pole beans, peas, eggplant, spanish onions, red onions, green onions, leeks, spinach, basil, carrots, pumpkins, corn, asparagus, cukes, eggplant, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, and beets (phewf!) now!
