Carnage

My kitchen is currently in a state of car-seat carnage.

Today, upon his return from daycare, in the moment between stopping the car in our driveway, and unbuckling the kid from his seat, Griffin apparently had the puke to end all pukes. I say apparently, because I was at work at the time, and missed all the fun!

I came home to a different kind of fun.

You know how car seats have a "removable, washable cover?" Well, how many of you have ACTUALLY removed and washed that cover? I'd hazard to guess not bloody many of you, because you need a fracking PHD in car-seat cover removology to get the damn thing off! I DID finally figure it out. I have taken the car seat ENTIRELY apart. Buckles, straps, do-dads, all have been removed and laundered, or hosed down, or disinfected. The entire thing was soaked, stuff dripping down into crevices I didn't even know the car seat had. AWESOME!!

Just before I went ape-shit, I did stop for a brief moment to snap a few photos, figuring I'd never figure out how the hell to put it back together if I didn't. Even then, it may be a trick. We might be home-bound for a few days while I figure out how to put this thing back together...

At least we have this wickedness to enjoy:

I seem to recall swearing that I would never have big plastic toys in my backyard. Well...I lied! We picked this up this weekend, second hand, for a STEAL!! It's gone over well.

These are out other new friends, who will protect us from evil winter winds to come. Aren't they pritty?

And this, well this is just my kid being cute and looking all rural and stuff. He's good like that!

Can we come over to play? My sister, mom, and I were just reminiscing about the old rusty swing set we had in our back yard, it was over-sized and threatened out very lives. Nice that our kids can have lovely brightly coloured things with smooth edges!!

Oh wow! That big yard plastic thingee looks cool! Gotta get me one of those!

And, yes, I've taken car seats apart MANY times. My daughter gets seriously car sick if we go farther than 15 minutes from our house.

Get off yer cross, Jenn. WE'VE ALL DONE THE CAR SEAT THING...it sucks...big time...and they're complicated...and you never remember from one time to the next how it works...and you cannot go anywhere until you sort it out...Yep.

Been there. Lucky for me (over Coal Miner's Gdaughter) that we don't own a car and my kids don't ride much...cuz I fear Tristan is predisposed to carsickness and I'd be as much a pro as her if we did.

Dylan has puked 5 times so far today. All ridiculous amounts. Once in his crib while sleeping (scary!) once in his high chair (almost as much to take apart as the car seat) twice in our bed, and once in the back-up fabric high chair. sigh. And tomorrow is his birthday and our trip to the zoo and then saturday his party. I will cry if we have to cancel for the plague.

Well, it's the first time I've done it, and hopefully the last for a while.

If everyone has to deconstruct their car seats on a regular basis, why can't they make them easier to do???

Whine, whine, whine!

We ended up taking a hose to the car seat after the eleventy seventeenth bazillion piece was discovered with puke on it. Worked well and stopped the need for disassembling.

That slide RAWKS! I'm jealous.

He is so stinkin' cute!

Yes, the car seat debacles. I've had a few as well.

I join BB's mom in being jealous of the slide. I shall also look for one to steal -- oh, I mean "for a steal" :-)

You are tougher than I. When the seat was thoroughly hosed in urine, I thought, "hey, the box boasted an easily removable seatcover! No Problem!" I abandoned all efforts about halfway through, reminded myself that urine is in fact sterile, did a little spot clean and called it a day. Not looking forward to the puke clean ups that are certainly in my future. Blech.
