Barf-o-rama

I don't know what is wrong with my small child, but he just wont. Stop. Barfing.

Do you remember that scene from Stand By Me, the one were Lardass barfs all over his pie eating competitors? It was like that around here tonight, except switching out the blueberry pie for mac and cheese. I have never been so thoroughly and completely barfed on as I was tonight.

This started on Wednesday night, and caused me to miss one of days of an already abbreviated work week - I abbreviate Fridays every week thanks to my new, "I'm a mother of two and don't have time for your 40 hours" schedule, and the holiday Monday this week made for a three day week. NOT GOOD ENOUGH, we decided, and took it down to two.

(You have no idea of the scope of the shitstorm that awaits me in the office on Monday morning.)

Corben barfed twice on Wednesday night, four times on Thursday, the last time almost exactly 24 hours after the first. And then yesterday? Nothing. Happy baby, eating whatever he likes. Until this morning, when breakfast was so thoughtfully returned to me. We spent the day snuggling. And then tonight, where an hour of bedtime snuggles and nursing resulted in the most epic vomit fest I've ever had the "privilege" to be a part of.

Luckily we were sitting in the big chair, and NOT on my bed.

This is all a long and overly descriptive way of saying I have no idea whats going on. But I'm starting to get a little worried, and for fear of spending another work day curled up in the big chair (lovely though it may be) we might be toddling off to the doc tomorrow. On a Sunday. That should be fun.

Wish us luck.

*Inhale*

I have a confession to make.

I love the smell of baby puke.

(And I suspect I'm not alone!)

Yeah, you know what I'm talking about.

I'm not talking monster throw-up here, I'm talking about that little bit of spit up that ends up on your shoulder after burping.

Because you couldn't be bothered with a burp cloth. Or secretly didn't want one.

It stays there, invading your senses all day long.

Catching a whiff of it causes you to smile.

Sniffing it causes you to reach for your baby, if you're not holding him already.

A good hearty inhale may be enough to cause your milk to let down.

It reminds of me of those hours spent nursing. The neck nuzzling that goes with the burping. The moments that I get to spend playing with the REALLY long hair at the back of my baby's head, that I hardly ever see. It reminds me what my body is capable of - not only growing this miracle, but making enough for him to eat, for him to sustain life, and not just sustain - to grow and to thrive.

It really is a bit of a miracle if you think about it.

And I do think about it, as often as I can.

Every time I smell that smell, that glorious sweet and ever-so-slightly sour smell, I think about it then. What a miracle it is that this little baby boy is ours, and part of our family. Ours to nurture, to care for, (to launder,) and to love.

Honey, I'm home!

Well, hello

We're back from our camping adventure, and an adventure it was.

Isn't it funny how one little thing can happen on one little day of your trip, and it can be the ONLY thing that you remember, how your "Camping trip of 2009" will go down in the history books?

Like that one time, when Griffin puked all over our TEN DAY OLD car? And that time that he passed his puke-ness to me, and I spent a night huddled over a bowl in the tent?

Oh wait, that was THIS time!

So, yeah. We had a bout of the 24 hour flu fly through our campsite and that of our friends that we camped with. The women and children were afflicted, luckily the men were not, as SOMEONE had to be available to empty out puke-buckets in the middle of the night. The children seemed to get over it rather quickly - Griffin spent a lethargic morning, puked all over the car, had a nap, and then was good to go again.

(Did I mention that our car is BRAND-FREAKING-NEW??)

Me? I took the FULL 24 hours to recover...likely since my body is also busy doing other stuff...you know, like growing a baby and all that!

But OTHER than the puketasticness, we had a great time. And that's all I have to say about that, since my bed, my lovely soft bed that I haven't slept in for 7 nights, is a mere 10 feet away from me and SCREAMING my name!

And so, I leave you with these:

Kid gets down and dirty with a corn cob:

Wonderdawg enjoys a chillaxin rainy morning in the tent. Rainy morning movies...we thought he was just tired....little did we know we were about to be barraged!
Annnnnd back in the saddle!
Hotdawg my kid is cute!

Status report from Puke Central

I know, I know. I invite everyone over for a party, tell them to come back soon, and then disappear.

I suck.

It's actually not true though - I don't suck. Work, however, sucks. (That's not actually true either, since I kind of love my job.) But working is sucking all my time. Steve is seriously busy, I am seriously busy, and sadly it's just going to get worse until about the middle of May.

And then my 2 big things are going to be open and I'm going to take a week off to plant my garden!

Then, life will be normal again!

So here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to tell you that from now until May, don't expect much. Heck, if you don't expect anything at all, no posts, no nothing, then now and then we may actually be able to exceed your expectations around here!!

Life on the Roof: Lowering Expectations since 2009.

Right now I'm at home on a weekday for the third time in 2 weeks. Next to me is the light of my life, who has a smokin' fever and has spent only 2 of the last 16 hours puke free. It's a darn good thing I love this kid so much, especially considering that I spent the WHOLE DAY yesterday catching up on 3 weeks worth of laundry. At 10pm, less than an hour after I had tucked the final piece of folded laundry away in it's home, the pukefest started. And it just kept going. And going. And going.

It finally stopped about an hour ago.

The first (new) load of laundry is in the dryer. The second is in the wash. The third is still in the laundry basket at the top of the stairs, not entirely convinced that it has seen the last pukey pair of PJ's.

Despite the fact that everything has been or it on it's way to being laundered, and I have showered, I can not seem to escape the smell of regurgitated Italian dinner. I think the kid is the next thing to hit the wash.

So while we're hanging on the big bed, about to fire up Wall-E for the third time today, I thought I'd head over to Random.org and find me a crown winner!

Comment #3 - is Secret Mom Thoughts - yay! A crown of your choice is coming your way!

So remember, expect nothing. That way we can promise to meet or exceed your expectations every single time you visit!

Puke Central, over and out.

(9:24 pm Edit - spoke too soon about being puke free. Load 3 of laundry in the machine. Loads 4 and 5 (Pillows...YUCK!!) standing by.)

Oh hi!

Hi there. Things have been crazy. Work. Husband out of town. You know. But I've been given a slight reprieve from the insanity that is the March Break (we're working at the ROM - 70,000 people in 10 days....good times!) and I'm currently snuggled up in bed with a toddler with a 103 degree fever, who just a short time ago vomited the entire contents of his stomach (mostly fluid, luckily) all over his car seat. I think that cleaning up a vomit laden car seat has to be one of my least favourite Mom jobs. This time though, we need to get the car cleaned too....there was so much of it, it leaked down and has soaked into a large spot on the back seat. Car shampoo, here we come!!

I have lots more to say. However, I think I'm going to take advantage of this little gift of an afternoon, and snuggle up with the G for a little nap.

But no worries....we're still alive!

On the Eight Day of Christmas, my true love gave to me....

The stomach flu.

Sweet. Merry Barfing Christmas!

I have a feeling that this is going to ruin our Anniversary (tomorrow - we have reservations for a VERY fancy and expensive dinner...too expensive to barf back up!) but it better not fall over into Christmas. I'll cry. So will Steve.

Happy Holidays Dudes! Hope the only barfing anyone else is doing is from too much nog!

Updated: I don't know if it was the tylenol, the homeopathic flu stuff I took, or the chicken soup that Steve made, but I feel 10 times better already!

Sunday Random

-I got puked on twice yesterday - happy Early Christmas, from Griffin! Both times were fairly monumental - the first was a change the entire bed puke (by the way, what the heck do you do with vomit soaked pillows?) The second time we were at a christmas party down the street, me dressed in my brand new wool sweater that I hope will, someday, not smell like puke anymore! I was just starting to enjoy my glass of wine too...luckily we weren't too far from home. The puke fest seems to be over, and the only side effect seems to be an extra snuggly toddler. OK by me!

-Snowmageddon - it came, it snowed, it went. Friday morning it was like someone turned the snow switch to "on" around 7:30 in the morning, and flicked it to "off" around 6pm. It stayed off until last night around 9pm, when it got turned back on again. It's still on, but on low right now, and I'm headed out to plow the driveway for the umpteenth time it seems. Can I just say how much I love Red? He has saved our ass, yet again!

-We are all on HOLIDAYS! No more work until the 5th of January! Now there is really NO excuse not to dump 1/2 a cup of Baileys in my morning coffee!

-If I don't talk to y'all before then (but I probably will. Aw heck, I'm SURE I will, so never mind. I'll wish you a Merry Christmas later!)

Carnage

My kitchen is currently in a state of car-seat carnage.

Today, upon his return from daycare, in the moment between stopping the car in our driveway, and unbuckling the kid from his seat, Griffin apparently had the puke to end all pukes. I say apparently, because I was at work at the time, and missed all the fun!

I came home to a different kind of fun.

You know how car seats have a "removable, washable cover?" Well, how many of you have ACTUALLY removed and washed that cover? I'd hazard to guess not bloody many of you, because you need a fracking PHD in car-seat cover removology to get the damn thing off! I DID finally figure it out. I have taken the car seat ENTIRELY apart. Buckles, straps, do-dads, all have been removed and laundered, or hosed down, or disinfected. The entire thing was soaked, stuff dripping down into crevices I didn't even know the car seat had. AWESOME!!

Just before I went ape-shit, I did stop for a brief moment to snap a few photos, figuring I'd never figure out how the hell to put it back together if I didn't. Even then, it may be a trick. We might be home-bound for a few days while I figure out how to put this thing back together...

At least we have this wickedness to enjoy:

I seem to recall swearing that I would never have big plastic toys in my backyard. Well...I lied! We picked this up this weekend, second hand, for a STEAL!! It's gone over well.

These are out other new friends, who will protect us from evil winter winds to come. Aren't they pritty?

And this, well this is just my kid being cute and looking all rural and stuff. He's good like that!
